From time to time people ask me why I care if something is spelled properly or is grammatically correct. Sometimes I get the whole "evolving language" justification. (Slashdot is the worst forum for people defending bad spelling, punctuation and grammar. Even as their bad spelling makes their arguments unintelligible, they keep telling everyone that they should ignore the "spelling nazis".)
I usually respond by saying "Ghhwejkjwlk njjjsiiks skkjlkala" and then saying "What? You didn't understand? I may have spelled it wrong, but that shouldn't be a problem."
No one seemed to be impressed by that argument, but I thought it was the best one I could make.
Until today, when I found an even better argument. Not because it makes my point better than simply typing gibberish, but because it comes from real life.
My new argument? Well, the title says it all. It came from the comments on a youtube video.
It is but one example of my new argument:
"Fine, if you think spelling and grammar are unimportant, then go to youtube.com and tell me what the comments mean."
It makes my old argument luk lyk teh sux.
