In
an earlier essay (
and also here) I made mention of the fact that the NIE which claimed Iran had "abandoned" their military nuclear program was a bit misleading. I pointed out that not only did Iran have little reason to pursue a civilian nuclear program, due to both oil and natural gas reserves, but also that refining uranium is not an either/or thing, that refining for civilian use also has military implications.
In short, I said that the NIE writers had allowed either their bias or bad human intelligence mislead them into finding what they wanted to find, that Iran was not an imminent threat.
In reality, it appears that even our intelligence agents are not so certain about Iran's intentions.
At least so says intelligence director Michael McConnell.I will write more about this later. Just wanted to point out that the left was a bit premature in preparing for that big group hug with the ayatollahs.
