For amusement, and a break from politics, I often go to
Jabootu.net to read amusing reviews of truly horrible movies. So, imagine my surprise when I saw
this series of comments trying to find a way to exonerate Obama's association with Rev. Wright. I will just reproduce one to give you an idea:
He did answer the question of how can a person bring their family to
the church of a raving lunatic by stating he didn’t agree with those
specific statements. The idea that Wright spent all of his time railing
at the United States is absurd. Yes he said stupid things that I
certainly find beyond idiotic, but they are a minute fraction of what
he talks about. I know that, as Obama said, I have strongly disagreed
with some of the statements my pastor has said in church, but that
doesn’t mean I need to renounce the church or the pastor. In fact, by
those rules, John McCain wouldn’t be able to attend my church, since
the pastor frequently speaks out against the war.
The Lott comparison is a false one for a very simple reason. Lott
MADE the statements. Obama did not. Lott insinuated our country would
be better off if we had simply instituted racially divisive policy.
Obama simply sat in the audience while someone else made idiotic
claims.
Look, if we are going to play this game, then I suppose we need a
whole new batch of candidates. Obama is out because of Wright, a
picture just surfaced that shows the Clintons have met with him as
well, so Hillary is out, and certainly McCain is out with his choice of
embracing Hagee, who has certainly said as many if not more idiotic
things than Wright.
Look at the levels to which the Obamaniacs will sink to get their guy out of hot water.
First, there is the claim that somehow Obama explained away his association for 20 years with an out and out racist, a man he called his "spiritual mentor". Somehow, by giving a well-written speech, and saying "Amerikkka is racist" (though in nicer words), we are supposed to think Obama has given us a justification.
Next comes the attempt to smear the other candidates. Hillary met with Wright, McCain spoke to Hagee. I don't know how to tell the Obamaniacs, but neither of them embraced a racist nutjob for 20 years.
It is just disgusting to see how some will continue to cling to their delusions in order to keep Obama afloat. I mean, as a partisan Republican I am pulling for Obama too, as it is all but certain McCain will win if that comes to pass. But the part of me that is an American rather than a Republican wants to see him go down in flames, as it would trouble me to see one of our two major parties put up such a shoddy candidate for office. It may not actually do any harm to America, but I would much rather see a race between two viable candidates than between McCain and this scandal magnet.
Well, at least most of the Obamaniacs seem to be slowly seeing the light. There are some still carrying water for the man, but their numbers seem to be slowly dwindling. I figure there will always be a hardcore of loonies left, a few who are in such deep denial that they can't believe he did it and some others so filled with white guilt they would stand up for Farrakhan given half a chance. But the rest of the Democrats seem to have seen the light, and I fully expect the remaining primaries, and the superdelegates as well, to choose for election results rather than racial guilt.
Then again, they could prove me wrong. Racial guilt* can carry a lot of weight with Democrats.
In any case, go
read the site, it is terribly amusing to see the Obama dupes continuing to excuse his deeds. And the responses from Ken Begg (the site's owner) are priceless as well.

* James Taranto, of
Best of the Web, has argued that by making an eloquent appeal to racial guilt, Obama has forced the superdelegates to side with him. I don't know if I buy that argument completely.
As I wrote before, I think some have secure enough seats that they can do whatever they want with total impunity. And I think in general Democrats place winning elections above any sort of intellectual consistency. But I suppose time will tell there as well.

UPDATED 03/23/2008
If Obama does get the nomination, riding on white liberal guilt, and if McCain isn't proven to be a pedophile bank robber who is also an ex-KGB spy (the only way he can lose at the moment), I wonder if Ron Paul's third party run (assuming he decides to do so) may not come in second instead of third. I know it sounds crazy, but Obama really did step in it, as far as the independents, and even the blue collar wing of the Democrats is concerned. I know McCain will win (unless that whole pedophile thing happens), but I am wondering if right now Obama can even manage to come in second.
