This will be short, but I think it is important to point out.
In trying to defend Obama by defending Reverend Wright, some have tried to say that Wright not only is "understandable" but not far out of the mainstream. They claim that many (or sometimes most) blacks actually believe what Wright does.
I have to say, these people are doing no one any favors. To try to paint the majority of black America as believing the government created AIDS or that all the ills of black society can be laid at the feet of white America does nothing to help race relations. Not only does it make whites think that black America is much less open to reconciliation than they really are, but it also horribly slanders most blacks. The idea that most blacks buy into the lunatic world view of Rev. Wright is insulting in the extreme. Yes, some do, but some people in any group are prone to crazed beliefs. I just do not think there is any evidence that a majority of blacks believe anything close to what Rev. Wright does*.
I know some people believe Obama is the second coming, but is it really worth all the harm to race relations to save this man's presidential aspirations?

* Perhaps I am naive, and this crazed world view really does permeate all of black America. I am willing to be proved wrong. I am going on personal experience alone, and, admittedly, I am not black, so others may have been more guarded in my presence. Still, I find it hard to believe that otherwise reasonable individuals I have met are sitting at home damning the US or imagining that the government created AIDS.

NOTE: Sorry about this. I know I said no more Reverend Wright posts, but, after seeing so many people trying to paint Reverend Wright's views as common in the black community, I just felt I had to say something. So, to make up for my promise breaking, I will have a "Wright Free Friday". (Again, barring the release of any new news.) That should make up for my transgression (I hope).
