I was tempted to write something more about Wright and Obama, but I decided that there was really no reason to even bother.
Yes, it is amusing watching Wright act offended that Obama dared to denounce him, and Obama getting offended that Wright suggested his denunciation was just a political move and not sincere. It is hilarious watching Obama say this is not the Wright he knew, though Wright is not saying anything he didn't say over and over for 20 years. And it is amusing to think that Obama is acting as if Wright offends him, though his good buddy Billy Ayers says things every bit as offensive regularly and Obama has not bothered to denounce him.
Yes, it is all amusing, and fodder for some good articles, but I just can't bring myself to write about it.
It would be like writing about Gary Hart a month after the Monkey Business photos were released. Whether the Democrats admit it or not, Obama's time is over. He may get the nomination, he may not, either way he will only see the Oval Office in photos, or maybe during a tour. The man is finished.
Maybe that is a better topic, the deep denial of the Democrats. They still cannot accept that their excessive enthusiasm for a neophyte politician with a good line of patter led them to throw away what they thought was a certain victory.
But even that really seems kind of pointless. It is a shame, it is only May 1st yet I am already through with the election. There is simply nothing to say that would matter. It might be mildly interesting to see just how suicidal the Democrats are during their convention, but besides that, nothing much makes a difference. The Democrats will nominate someone, McCain will win, and the Democrats will blame either sexism or racism, depending on who lost to McCain.
Of course, perhaps McCain will surprise me and do something so stupid that the race will be up for grabs once more. But, while he is a media hound with no consistency in his nominally conservative principles, McCain has not served as long as he has by being a fool. I just don't see him making the same blunders as Hillary and Obama. I suppose he could surprise me, but I just don't think it will happen.
So the only question left is how big McCain's victory will be.
