Since I made no resolutions at New Years, I have decided to make a resolution now. I am not reading or commenting on any more Pat Buchanan columns.
Why? Well, it seems to get me a bit worked up.
Just read my comments on the current column. Last time I read his column I ended up posting the essay "
Right On One Issue Is Not Enough" and "
A Question for 'Paleo-Conservatives'".
So it has become obvious that I just get too worked up reading the man. His followers are never going to change their minds, and everyone sane has already recognized his insane desire to whitewash the Nazis, so there just is no point. Unless something comes up which absolutely requires me to read or comment on one of his columns, I will be avoiding them from now on.
While I do wish that conservatives would stop admitting Pat to their ranks, making it seem he represents conservative thought, there are more important fights. It is a bit disturbing that Buchanan has single-handedly revived the "nazis were conservatives" myth, which it took so long to kill, but we can always strike it down once more after conservatives come to their senses and eject him at last. Until then I will hold my tongue and say nothing more about the neo-Nazi populist who passes himself off as a conservative.
