Grammar Nazi Extra

I am always glad to find other spelling and grammar nazis out there.

On Katie Favazza's blog I found an article linking to The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks. It is a valiant effort at being a punctuation nazi, but I still think the hands down winner comes from across the Atlantic, England's Apostrophell. (The same site also contains the haikulator, ideal for those who just can't get enough haiku. And, really, who can?)

As I am sure this interests all of three people (if I can count myself), I won't bother linking the half dozen other snarky punctuation, spelling and grammar sites. But should either of the other two interested parties drop by, let me know in the comments section, and I'll add the links.

Oh, alright, I lied. I can't resist linking a few more sites:
Apostrophe Catastrophes
Apostrophe Abuse
Apostrophe Protection Society
Literally, a Web Log
You may notice that last one isn't a punctuation site, but as abuse of the word "literally" figuratively drives me up a wall, I had to include it.

I also love the site "Common Errors in English", even if I disagree with some of the author's views on neologisms and archaic usages. (I still refuse to use "gender" for "sex", and I can't say "indexes" no matter how hard I try.)

And now, having proved that I am the biggest grammar geek on earth, I will wrap things up.

POSTSCRIPT

Please, do not point out the irony of being a spelling and grammar nazi while my writing is filled with countless spelling errors, sentence fragments, run on sentences, and inconsistencies of tense and number. I am aware of my shortcoming, and strive to fix them.

On the other hand, being aware of my own errors still puts me ahead of 95% of those on the internet, many of whom seem to think "RU?" is a complete sentence.

And, while I am asking for a pass, please don't mention that I am quite the offender when it comes to unnecessary quotation marks. I know it very well. I have joined a twelve step program and I am making good progress. My sponsor says if I can avoid writing "platform" in quotations when talking about Obama for another week, I can get a token.

Oh, darn. Guess I have to come clean about those quotes at the next meeting.
