I know that there was some debate about whether Red Nancy truly violated the Logan Act when she carried her fictional "secret message from Israel" to Syria and indulged in other private diplomacy, but I think there can be no doubt that, if true,
allegations that Obama encouraged the Iraqis to delay the withdrawal of US troops is a clear violation of the Logan Act.
Then again, as with Pelosi, I am sure some will dispute this reading of the Act and claim it was perfectly permissible, and just a "fact finding" visit, or some manner of presidential campaigning. (Considering the
allegations that he is receiving millions in illegal contributions from overseas, maybe he is just doing constituent outreach.)
In any case, whether or not it is a violation of the Logan Act, is this behavior of a man you would want to be your president?
UPDATE
OK. We all get caught by bad posts. And I am as subject to misdirection as anyone. The faux Dowd above is one such article. Then again, finding foreign money isn't all that shocking, considering the dish washers giving thousands to Hillary Clinton, so I bought a plausible but false allegation.
It doesn't change my point, so I am not bothering to redact the article. My error is there for anyone to see. Mea culpa.
