I am curious, why do those on the left get so angry about Sarah Palin? Not political opposition, I can understand that, I think Obama is dangerously left wing. When liberals see Sarah Palin, they get angry, they can't resist criticizing her for being stupid, or whiny, or ugly, or some other irrelevant criticism. Every left wing site is full of rant after rant about how horrrible Palin is. She gets more abuse than even the twin demons Cheney and Rove did at the height of the 2000 "stolen election" hysteria.
What is it about the left that they can't simply disagree, but must actually HATE their opponents.
Once before I proposed that the left is so vehement in their politics because it is such a big part of their identity. Many leftists substitute politics for religion, for community, for most things, and see themselves as good and caring simply because they support "good" politics. You can hear it in their claims that "all intelligent people are liberals", or see it in the polls that compare the lack of left wing private charity with the giving of those on the right. They draw a lot of their self worth from the fact that they support the correct politics. It makes them caring, and good, and smart and on the right side of history.
And I think that may be part of it. They hate conservatives because, by saying their politics are wrong, we are challenging their self worth.
But why Palin in particular? I still can't quite figure out what about her drives the left to such extremes of anger.
Any ideas out there?
