Well, this isn't quite your normal
Best of the Web imitates me post, as I have to confess I was imitating John Stossel to some degree.Well, not exactly imitating, but
his more moderate post did inspire
my more intemperate post, in which I wrote:
Our system is designed for corruption, and we should not pretend that
there is any real difference between the Governor's overt sale of an
office and the quiet sale of cabinet posts by presidential candidates.
Do you really think Hillary threw in with Obama out of party loyalty?
Or because she thought he was the best choice? She threw in because she
hoped she would get a cabinet position, perhaps because she actually
had been quietly promised the very post she has now. So what is the
difference? Blagojevich wanted to get a cabinet post in exchange for
picking the "right" senator, Hillary promised her support in order to
be made secretary of state. Can anyone tell me how the two differ?
Which is quite similar to the sentiments expressed in
Best of the Web today:
So Paterson may appoint Miss Kennedy to the Senate in the expectation
that Miss Kennedy will raise money for Paterson's campaign. We suppose
this is different from the arrangement Gov. Rod Blagojevich allegedly
discussed with "Senate Candidate 5," but we're not sure exactly how.
Surprising how often I seem to scoop the WSJ, isn't it?
For those unfamiliar with the joke, I have a running gag,
started long, long ago. I find an article on the Wall Street Journal's Best of the Web, or sometimes an article by Thomas Sowell, John Stossel or others, and I accuse them of plagiarizing my slightly older post. It may not be the funniest joke, but the impression it creates that I am a delusional megalomaniac makes me chuckle, so I keep at it. Sooner or later someone else will find it funny too.
Or perhaps that belief is the delusional part.
