I think I found the perfect summary of my whole political philosophy. In
an old post, I found the following handful of sentences:
My fellow citizens are adults. Some may be dumber than I am, some
smarter, it doesn't matter. They are competent adults, they can make
their own choices. They probably will make mistakes, but that cannot be
my concern. It is worse to treat an adult like a child and prevent him
from choosing than it is to allow him to make mistakes. I would much
rather a "heartless" free society existed than even the most caring
dictatorship.
And that, in a nutshell is the explanation for my support of
a federalist system, and
my opposition to all state intrusions into matters which do not related directly to the preservation of rights.
That is the whole of my political philosophy. All the rest, as they say, is simply explanation.
