Something We Forget

In this day and age, it seems impossible, but I still stand by my statement from my post "We're From the Government and We're Here To Help You", in a well run state, most of us would never interact with the government outside of the ballot box. If the government was the size it is supposed to be, and fulfilled only those functions it should, most of us would deal with the state rarely, only in the courts, in the form of police, and at the polls. A few who served in the military would have a bit more contact, as would those whose careers involved more time in court, or dealing with the police, but for the average citizen, the government would be almost invisible. Most days the average citizen would have no contact with the government at all.

Isn't that a much better vision of the world than the current dream of a government which provides for absolutely every need? A life where the government is a continual presence, government rulings touching on absolutely every facet of our lives?

Who could possibly argue that life would be better if more of our decisions were regulated by other people?
