I know I have mentioned this a lot, but we really do seem to be reliving the 1970's one more time. Not only is Obama talking down the US, making military concession while getting nothing in return, offering to give up missile defense, talking about unilateral disarmament, playing up to the Arab and being led around by Iran, not only is swine flu returning and massive inflation on the way, and not only do we have a number of hostile powers controlling our oil supplies, but we also have a Star Trek movie coming out. And, just as in 1979, I have a feeling it will be a bizarre product which will leave everyone saying "It was... interesting... but not what I expected."

Oh, and there is continuing talk of price controls, as well as prosecution of members of the previous administration. Granted, Ford had nixed a lot of that by his pardon of Nixon, but still the mood during the Carter administration was remarkably similar to that of today.

What makes this frightening is that many Democrats would hear this and find no problem with it, forgetting that, while Carter may have been "moral" and "upstanding" in their eyes, in terms of actually delivering those things we expect from a president, peace, prosperity (at least an environment which allows us to create prosperity), security, good government, and maybe a little inspiration, Carter was a total failure. Many Democrats find "malaise" more "honest" and thus preferable to "morning in America". Which makes me wonder how Democrats ever manage to get elected.
