I know I promised to write, but work has kept me quite busy. I have done some work on my gun control post, so that will be posted sometime tonight I am sure. Until I get that done however, let me recommend
a great article on the Obama health care justification, "The Economic Case for Health Care Reform." The WSJ opinion pages do a great, if brief, job taking apart the many claims made for the necessity to create a European-style "universal" health care plan, complete with substandard care and rationing. I will take this argument apart myself in the future, but for now the WSJ article is quite a good beginning.
By the way, I do have to ask if Obama is trying to lose his "
Carter Mark II" reputation by imitating Walter Mondale. Recall how Mondale lost big by promising to raise taxes? I don't think Obama will find much more support from America by telling them they will just have to make do with less health care. Obviously it is true that any universal heath care plan will require rationing and making do with less, but most Democrats are smart enough to gloss over that point. If Obama continues to honestly state "you need to use less medical care", he may find himself with a very unhappy electorate. That is if his own party doesn't rise up against him first.
Oddly enough, Obama may end up doing himself in through an excess of honesty. Which is quite ironic for a man who won office by
refusing to take a stand on anything.
