I am always fascinated by what politicians say. Especially when you translate it into plain English.
For example, I have heard a few mouthpieces for the administration telling that the current health care crisis requires that Obama go back on his campaign promise not to raise taxes
Now, as Obama's campaign was predicated upon a promise to resolve the supposed health care crisis without raising taxes, the real statement is this: We know that the president promised to provide free health care to everyone without raising taxes on anyone but the rich, but that is simply impossible. We knew it was impossible when we ran for office. However, Obama so wanted to be president that he lied to you in order to get your votes. Now that he is going to have to deliver on one of those promises he has decided to make it sound as if circumstances have changed in under a year and forced him to reluctantly go back on his promise. Hopefully you won't notice if we package it nicely and we can still count on your vote in four years. If necessary, we can tell you some more pleasing lies then. Think it will help?
Iknow the translation doesn't sound anywhere near as nice as the first one, but it is a bit more accurate.
