I don't even need to comment on this item, do I?
Dan Rather wants Obama to help "save the press". Yes, that's right, the government should intervene in journalism to ensure it stays independent. Once government funds journalism, gets to choose who and what counts as a journalist and who gets funding to report news, it is certain that the news would be presented in a fair, objective and impartial way. Clearly, that makes total sense.
With news like this, there really is nothing for a commentator to do.
I do think this may be a good time for me to renew my proposition I made in "
The Death of Impartial Media". As we all know, the MSM has, especially since Obama started running for office, made little secret of its liberal bias and its utter adoration of Obama. And that is fine. If the MSM outlets want to be in the tank for Obama and the Democrats let them. My onlyt request is that we then give up on the pretense of "imaprtial jounralismn" and return to the much more common, both historically and worldwide, model of partisan journalism.
Instead of pretending that each biased outlet is somehow a paragon of impartiality, why don't we follow the elad of history, and the rest of the world, and simply admit our biases and have a number of competing, partisan news outlets. After all, we already have it in practice, why not stop lying and just admit that fact?
