I know
it is de rigeur among most Republicans today to denounce Cheney. While many have come out against Bush since he left office, it seems Republicans were Cheney bashing even before the man left office. However, just as I am
still fond of Phil Gramm despite
all the idiotic criticisms of him, before and after he was
McCain's advisor, I have always been a fan of Cheney. And now I can point out many reasons why. Check out
this article in the WSJ. The man was so committed to doing what was right, rather than popular, that he thought it was a good idea to strike Iran when Bush was set to leave office, as he worried Obama would do too little to discourage Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons. (And he also does not kow tow to the absurd doctrine that Iran is not pursuing weapns as do most Republicans.)
One point I want to make. The joint chiefs apparently did not want to strike as "the region is too unstable". However, if the region is
ALREADY unstable, why worry about destablilizing it? That is like worrying about impregnating a pregnant woman. Once it is unstable, stability is no longer an issue. (Not to mention that the reason it is unstable is mostly attributable to Iran itself, so striking at Iran may actually improve stability.)
I haven't written much about these topic recently, and I don't have time to go into it right now, but I do think this is a very interesting article on Cheney's thoughts about Iran and Obama's re-enactment of the Church committee. Well worth a read.

For those curious about why I claim the NIE saying there are no Iranian plans to pursue nuclear weapons, please read "

Food For Thought", "
The Failure of Negotiation" and "
The End of Islamic Terrorism?") They are topics I should be revisiting soon, along with those topics I mentioned in "
To Clarify". But, as you can see, I have been rather lax in my writing today. Then again, it was my son's first day in preschool, as well as my meeting with his teacher, so I am giving myself a pass. I am sure tomorrow will see much more writing.
