One of the postscripts to my last post "
Off Topic Observation" was a bit unclear. I made mention of the absurdity of our "diversity" fetish, but I am afraid it was not clear what I meant. My point was twofold. First, that humans seem very similar to one another, without inherent differences between races or even cultures, that most differences are quite superficial and humans are largely the same, whatever the race, the culture, or even the era. Second, what differences do exist seem to be greatest between individuals, not between any easily distinguished groups.
I intend to write more on this later, how our racist, culturally-fixated obsession with "diversity", finding "diversity" in sexual orientation, sex, genetics or national origin, is misplaced and not only does not encourage any real diversity of opinion, but also perpetuates racism, bigotry, religious and cultural prejudice and other beliefs it is supposed to fight. But it is late now so any post will have to wait until tomorrow.
POSTSCRIPT
I also hope to write a short post on Katrina, four years later. Everyone else is doing it, and it does seem a good way to discuss how much harm is done by believing that life should be free of risk and that the government should protect us from misfortune, or indemnify us against harm if the worst comes to pass.
Hey, at least it is a take on Katrina you aren't going to get in the thousand other retrospectives.
POSTSCRIPT II
Before I forget I also want to make my case that Obama, despite his socialist-friendly beliefs, really is doing more damage from ignorance than malice or some ulterior motive. It is a post I promised in "
Think of the Impresison You Make", and I will try my best to write it tomorrow.
