Best of the Web Confirms My Theory

Many times I have written that those on the left, for all their talk of "supporting minorities" are themselves guilty of really disgusting stereotyping and a patronizing attitude towards minorities. Specifically, I said as much in "Eurocentrism? Racism? Liberal Traits All", "It Is All In How You Say It", "The Racism of the Left", "Utopianism and Disaster" and "Mainstreaming hate".

Today, Best of the Web printed a good article confirm just such a bias among those trying to defend ACORN

Good Help Is Hard to Find
Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck also aired the San Bernardino Acorn tapes last night, and in introducing them, he made an excellent point:

America, ask yourself this question. Either ACORN has the most corrupt hiring practices, lowest standards or you just can't find anyone in the inner city that's a decent human being.
Now, I don't believe that one. I don't think ACORN wants to make that case. Really? Well, that's the case you'd better make, ACORN.

But the previous day, National Public Radio's Frank James had offered precisely that excuse:

It's also important to keep in mind that ACORN's workers are coming from the same low-income neighborhoods the organization serves, with all that entails--poor schools, high crime and the sorts of social problems that have been documented for decades.
So the flaws conservatives are pointing out about ACORN are not so much problems associated with that organization per se but more about the problems of being poor and minority in urban America.

It's hard to see how James's casual assumption that corruption is the predictable result of "being poor and minority" is anything other than invidious bigotry. Further, even if one assumes for the sake of argument that Acorn is a mere passive embodiment of "social problems," how exactly does that get it off the hook? Acorn is supposed to ameliorate those problems, is it not?

While it may just be a convenient excuse, what does it say of those on the left that the best excuse they could find was "poor minority individuals are all corrupt workers who would gladly help out pimps setting up child prostitution rings"?
