I am sure some readers are wondering why my recent posts have been on a variety of trivial topics, and not on the medical bill which is slowly crawling out of the senate. And the answer is simply that I don't think there is much to say. I have discussed at great length the many problems with nationalized medicine, as well as the "public option", I have dealt with the many technical issues and the legal problems, and explained the many problems government control of medicine would bring. Having done all the that, I have very little left to say. I did promise Rich I would write about mandates, and I do feel I need to write a bit more about "preexisting conditions" as so many seem to fail to understand why they should not be covered, and, if I get a lot of time, I may write about the problems caused by cartels created through "consumer protection" laws, but I just have very little to say about the current medical bill.
And in reality, there is little reason to comment on it, as I doubt even its supporters expect it to pass. It may make it through the senate, though even there its fate is far from certain, but it is never going to go through the house, where every member faces reelection in 2010. There is just no way, given the lack of support, that anyone but the holder of an absolutely safe seat is going to risk their future on Obama's folly. So, until the 2010 elections are over nationalized health care, even in the watered down "public option" form, is a dead issue.
So, maybe after the 2010 elections I will come back to this. But at that point it will be a different question, all depending on who gets elected, and so it is pointless to anticipate anything today.
POSTSCRIPT
In addition to the posts I mentioned above, I also do eventually hope to write the analysis of the real pollution caused by "green" energy. I have been promising to do it for so long I feel I have to eventually write it.
Correction: I must be slipping. It took me days to realize the title said "Medial" rather than "Medical". As you can see, it is now correct.
