Actually, to be fair, I am not sure if the writer of this comment was a liberal or just an "anti-Zionist", whether of the "paleo-con" variety or not, though his emphasis on Israel's "warmongering" suggests a liberal bent rather than the more war-friendly Buchananite variety of Israel hatred. Regardless of his orientation, the quote I found while reading
John Kyl's article in the WSJ, has to be the most idiotic in recent memory (and there is quite a stiff competition for that title):
Why can Israel have hundreds of nuclear weapons but Iran cannot have
any? How long will the U.S. practice their double standard when it
comes to Israel, a warmongering, criminal nation that has been
occupying and oppressing the Palestinians for over forty years? Our
country is a disgrace and our spineless politicians are to blame.
I was going to write a lengthy discourse on this, on the failure of liberals at both "principle" and "practicality", but I thought better of it. There is no need to belabor the point.
Instead, let me rewrite his question:
Why should an allied nation, which has gone out of its way to seek peace with homicidal bombers and terrorists, which does all it can to minimize civilian harm when retaliating against those who bomb innocent civilians be allowed to have hundreds of nuclear weapons, and not a nation which has promised to attack both us and our allies, which has sponsored terrorism, has held our diplomats hostage, and even now is sending its troops into Iraq to train men to kill our soldiers?
Yes, that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

And before anyone starts to tell me how criminal Israel is, read my earlier writing, as I am not going to bother debunking those absurd arguments one more time:

I know I should probably write out these points, as so few follow links, but if I did that every time I argued with some "anti-Zionist" position I would be doing nothing but rewriting those same arguments.
