I want to announce that this blog has decided to endorse cap and trade. While theoretically we think it is a bad idea, from a very mercenary perspective, we are all in favor. The reason being that I can prove I was planning to open a huge number of coal fired generators across the nation. Maybe one hundred. Since I have now opted not to open them, that should give me millions of tons of carbon credits I can now sell off to the highest bidder, correct? After all, isn't the whole system based on such fictional savings of the fictional threat carbon emissions? So, if we must have a bad policy, I figure it should be a bad policy that pays me millions of dollars for not committing imaginary resources to imaginary projects. It is still bad policy, but as it will probably do a little less economic damage than health care "reform", and as I have an active imagination which could potentially earn me billions, I have decided to favor cap and trade.

Yes, this is quite sarcastic in intent. It was inspired by an article in
Best of the Web describing the equally absurd methods used to earn millions in carbon credits while not reducing emissions at all, just shuffling them outside the EU. If such scams work, then why not my "pay for imagination" plan?
