I have made promises before on this blog ("
Promises to My Readers") mostly related to what and when I would post and the manner in which I would treat those who posted comments. Those promises still stand, but I have an additional promise to make. But, before making it, I suppose a short explanation is in order.
I was reading some other blogs a few days ago when it struck me there are really two types of blogs. There are those that are simple blogs, labors of love by those who write them, just the thoughts of the poster. The second type are the fame-monger blogs, those who hope to make a name for themselves or become rich. Now, for the most part, both are honest, their contents are the sincere thoughts of those who post them, but, there is a difference.
Just think of it this way. If your first goal is to become a famous conservative pundit, are you going to go against a belief cherished by most conservatives? For example, are you going to suggest gay marriage is a valid choice? Or even go as far as I did and suggest the state should get out of marriage? Yes, the big guys might get away with it sometimes. Limbaugh and Boortz and even Stossell and Bozell and Malkin can get away with challenging conservative conventional wisdom sometimes. But the "up and coming" blogs can't. A few may like to think they are "independent", but if they take a stand and suddenly see their numbers drop, since they have more interest in fame, I guarantee you that will be the last time they will post on that topic. I don't suggest they will lie, but they may very well avoid uncomfortable topics.
And that is my promise. Telling you my thoughts, whether anyone likes them or not, will always be my first goal. I do not care about fame or fortune. In fact, I never thought I would write a blog at all. But now that I am recording my thoughts, I am recording all of them. Be it my belief that marriage is not a proper function of the state, that mental illness does not exist, or my belief in transmigration of the soul, I will not hide what I think regardless of how it effects readership. As you can tell from the reactions to my criticism of the Obama birth certificate controversy, I have lived up to this so far, and I will continue to do so.
And that is my promise, that I will never hide or alter my beliefs just to suit my readership. It may cost me readers, it will certainly not make me famous, but it definitely makes it much more enjoyable to write this blog. And so, for my sake as well as yours, I promise to always say exactly what I think, no matter what the outcome.
